HISTORY of BROMO :
In ancient times, called Tengger Tribe in the area of Mount Bromo. And Tengger name derived from Legend Roro Anteng also Joko Seger is believed to be the origin of the name Tengger it. “Teng” suffix name Roro An- “teng” and “ger” suffix name from Joko Se- “ger” and Mount Bromo itself is believed as a holy mountain. According to folklore, at the end of the 15th century Roro Anteng’s daughter from the Majapahit Empire started a separate kingdom together with her husband Joko Seger.
They named it Tengger after the last syllable of their name. The principle is prosperous, but the ruling couple has no children. In their despair, they climb Mount Bromo to pray to the gods, who give them help, but asks the last child to be sacrificed to the gods. They had 24 children, and when the tenth and twenty-five year olds of Kesuma were born Roro Anteng refused to make sacrifices as promised. The god was then threatened with fire and brimstone, until he sacrificed the child. After the child is thrown into the crater, the child’s voice commands the local community to perform an annual ceremony in the volcano that is still ongoing until now.
